The season has started! After the winter has finally passed away we could not wait to kick off the gravel season. Since the time until our main event in autumn in the Black Forest is still very long, we want to throw in a few smaller rides in between the waiting time.
The prelude to our first edition of VOTEC Gravel Fondo Rides was again in beautiful Heidelberg. Like last year, the Fahrstil Klubhaus was once again the focal point of the day. For all those who do not yet know the Klubhaus: the Fahrstil Magazine has created the hotspot for all cycling connaisseurs in Heidelberg . Good coffee and regular, interesting events complete the whole thing.
Bright sunshine and a cloudless sky promised a perfect day in the Odenwald. After handing out all of our VRX Gravelbikes, which we had for testing and a small second breakfast, almost 75 gravel pilots arrived and the 80 km long track could be taken under the tires. One of the highlights was right at the beginning of our tour and the climb over the Philosophenweg that offered a bombastic view of the Neckar valley and down to Heidelberg.
The first KOM of the day could then be “blown away” on the way up to the tower of the Heiligenberg. Again, perfect view of the Neckar valley.
A few kilometers further on, the historic Thingstätte long stairway demanded cyclocross skills.
The tender green and flowering orchards then gave birth to a perfect spring feeling and the kilometers flew by until about halfway through the course we have been surprised by a cake buffet of the Fahrstil Crew. Our tanks could be refilled with a variety of baked goods. Since at least the spring classics when World Champ Peter Sagan treated himself with gummi bears we know they can do wonders. Not gummi bears but a big box of blue Smurfs could also satisfy these cravings.
Durch verschlafene Dörfer und ausgedehnte Schottergeraden führte uns die Route tiefer in den Odenwald hinein bis der Neckar uns wieder sein Gesicht zeigte.
Who was not yet fully utilized could pump up on the last climb of the day up to the Königsstuhl. From the majestic view down to the Heidelberg, ice cold Radlers and beers were calling. The well-deserved downhill to the Klubhaus conjured up a big grin on everyone’s face.
Heidelberg is definitely always worth a visit and if you have the opportunity, you should also stop at the Fahrstil Klubhaus. Many thanks to all who came to ride with us. Thanks also to the Fahrstil team!
